Rainbow Coalition set up to secure Tinubu’s re-election – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said his Rainbow Coalition in Rivers and the FCT is mainly set up to secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Wike stated this during a media parley in Abuja on Tuesday.
He waved aside concerns that the coalition could weaken the All Progressives Congress, APC, or cause rift among its governors.
According to him, the initiative is meant to bring together APC members and Tinubu supporters from other political parties to pursue a common electoral goal.
Wike, who is coordinating the coalition’s activities in Rivers and the FCT, stressed that the arrangement is not meant to replace the APC as the platform for Tinubu’s re-election.
He said the coalition accommodates political interests outside the ruling party and allows them to work for the President’s second term.
The former Rivers governor mentioned Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, as examples of political figures linked to the coalition’s coordination at state level.
He maintained that the President’s re-election remains the coalition’s main objective, irrespective of the political affiliations of those involved.
Wike also dismissed claims that the coalition has unsettled APC governors or could trigger defections from the ruling party.
“If you see that word, PBT/APC, it means those who are supporting the President, who are not members of the party, together with the party, are working together to achieve that purpose.
“The major thing is Mr President. Whatever we are going to do, whoever has any idea or anything to contribute is to the success of Mr President. That is the whole thing. I don’t know what concerns there are. As far as I am concerned, there is no problem,” he said.
