Sango-Ota-Joju flooding: Ado-Odo/Ota Council, Ogun Govt inspect corridor
The Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Council has said it will collaborate with relevant state government agencies and stakeholders to address flooding and other infrastructure challenges affecting residents in the area.
The Chairman of the council, Lawal Wasiu, stated this during a technical inspection of the flood-prone Sango-Ota–Joju corridor on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
Lawal, who was accompanied by the Councillor representing Sango Ward, Joel Okeodebija, said the recurring flooding along the axis has become a major concern for residents, commuters and businesses.
He noted that the corridor, which is part of the busy Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, often experiences flooding during heavy rainfall, leading to disruption of vehicular movement and threats to adjoining communities.
The inspection team included officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr Ilo Solomon and Engr Adeyinka, and officials of the Ministry of Environment, Engr Dare Samuel and Engr Ogunremi Abiola.
The officials assured that the state government would intensify efforts to find a lasting solution to the flooding, stressing the need for coordinated engineering and environmental measures.
They observed that runoff from adjoining communities, including areas around Sango-Ota and Ijoko-Ota, contributes significantly to the volume of water flowing towards the affected sections of the expressway.
According to them, addressing the challenge would require collaboration among government agencies, local authorities, construction companies and other stakeholders.
Engineers from Craneburg Construction Company, the firm handling the ongoing road project, also participated in the inspection and provided technical input on vulnerable sections.
The team examined existing drainage channels and erosion points and considered measures to improve water flow, protect road infrastructure and minimise the impact of future rainfall.
