Troops foil terrorist attacks on Borno military bases, recover weapons
Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, have foiled terrorist attacks on two Forward Operating Bases in Borno State, killing four terrorists and recovering weapons and ammunition.
The development was contained in a statement issued on Friday by Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai.
The attacks targeted FOB Gajiram in Nganzai Local Government Area and FOB Mairari in Guzamala Local Government Area on September 17, 2026.
At Gajiram, troops detected terrorists advancing towards the base with support from Multinational Joint Task Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets.
The troops adopted defensive measures while the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai provided close air support, forcing the terrorists to withdraw into adjoining areas.
Later that night, ISWAP terrorists attacked FOB Mairari but were repelled by troops with support from the Air Component.
The military said the operation inflicted casualties on the terrorists and led to the recovery of four bodies, AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, RPG bombs and a camcorder.
Some troops sustained injuries during the engagement and were evacuated to hospital for treatment.
The affected locations were subsequently reinforced, while troops continued operations in the surrounding areas to prevent the terrorists from regrouping.
Meanwhile, two Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) terrorists, including a Qaid, surrendered to troops of Sector 1 Operation Hadin Kai along the Miyanti-Darel Jamel axis in Bama Local Government Area on September 16.
The terrorists surrendered with three AK-47 rifles, five magazines, a motorcycle and ammunition.
The military said the two suspects are in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation and profiling.
The Theatre Commander, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, commended the troops for their efforts.
He urged terrorists still in hiding to surrender through established channels and called on residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information.
