18-year-old housewife allegedly stabs husband over money, phone in Bauchi

An 18-year-old woman, Fatima Dalha, has allegedly stabbed her 30-year-old husband in the stomach during a disagreement over money and personal belongings in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 6am on Sunday in Lirr Bajar, where the couple reportedly engaged in an argument over money, wrappers and a mobile phone the woman claimed belonged to her.
The Bauchi State Police Command in a statement issued on Sunday said the disagreement escalated into a physical fight, during which Fatima allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed her husband.
The injured man was said to have being rushed to a hospital by police operatives from the Dass Division and is currently receiving treatment.
The command said the suspect was nearly lynched by an angry mob before the arrival of the police, who rescued her from the scene.
The police have detained Fatima and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.
The command added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed concern over domestic violence among young couples and urged them to resolve disagreements peacefully.
“A moment of anger can destroy two lives forever. We urge couples to seek peaceful means, through family, elders and lawful channels, instead of resorting to violence,” the commissioner said in a statement issued on Sunday by the command's spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib.
Aliyu also warned residents against jungle justice, assuring that the police would ensure justice was served professionally and humanely.
