2026 Ballon d’Or: Sagna names ‘most important player’ to win award

Former France defender, Bacary Sagna, has backed Paris Saint-Germain forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to win this year’s Ballon d’Or.

Sagna picked Kvaratskhelia ahead of his fellow Frenchman Kylian Mbappe.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City defender was asked directly whether Mbappe would be a deserving recipient of the award.

Although Sagna included Mbappe in his top three, he stated that Kvaratskhelia should win the individual award next month.

“For me, Kvara deserves the Ballon d’Or,” Sagna said, as quoted by GOAL.

“For me, Kvara [Khvicha Kvaratskhelia] has been phenomenal and being a winger, having such an impact and a successful campaign.

“Apart from winning the Champions League, I think football players will agree that Kvara was the most important player last season.”
