Adamawa Assembly passes bill to curb multiple taxation

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill to curb multiple taxation.

The House, at its sitting on Wednesday, passed the Adamawa State Harmonised Taxes and Levies (Approved List for Collection) Law 2026, to provide for the collection of taxes and levies by the state government and its local government councils.

The bill is also designed to regulate the collection of road traffic revenues and curb multiple collections, most of which are now deemed illegal.

The third reading of the bill followed the presentation, consideration and adoption of the report of the House Committee on Finance, Appropriation and Budget, headed by Haruna Jilantikiri, representing Madagali Constituency.

Earlier, Jilantikiri told the House that multiple taxation and bottlenecks in revenue collection were among the findings of his committee.

The Speaker of the House, Bathiya Wesley, who presided over the sitting, announced the passage of the bill and directed the House Clerk to prepare a clean copy for the attention of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
