No more power woes? Lagos unveils new electricity plan
The Lagos State Government is seeking lasting solutions to its electricity challenges through a three-day summit involving regulators, power distribution companies, energy suppliers and other industry players.
The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, said the 2026 Lagos Energy Summit would focus on practical measures to improve electricity supply and achieve round-the-clock power across the state.
Ogunleye spoke on Thursday during a briefing ahead of the summit scheduled for November 10 to 12.
He said discussions would cover electricity sector reforms, metering, renewable energy, energy efficiency and alternative power sources.
The commissioner also disclosed that the state was engaging the Federal Government to clarify regulatory responsibilities and strengthen its control over energy infrastructure.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ibilola Kasumu, said the summit would focus on resolving specific industry challenges rather than merely delivering policy speeches.
She expressed hope that its recommendations would provide a workable model for reliable electricity supply that other states could adopt.
The summit, themed Lagos Energy Evolution: Transforming the Future, will also showcase clean-energy innovations by secondary school students and attract investors, academics, policymakers and industry experts.
