OSBC Chapel clinch NUJ Press Week Football title with commanding 5–0 victory
By Isa Isawade, Osogbo
The Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) Chapel on Tuesday emerged champions of the football competition of the Osun NUJ Press Week 2026, delivering a ruthless 5–0 demolition of the Correspondents Chapel in the final decided at Crescendo Field No. 1, Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Alekuwodo, Osogbo.
The competition, which formed part of the sporting activities lined up for this year’s Press Week, produced thrills, suspense and moments of sheer brilliance as participating chapels battled for honours on the pitch.
Semi-Final Drama
In the first semi-final, the OSBC Chapel made light work of the Broadcast Consolidated Chapel, running out 2–0 winners to book an early place in the final.
The second semi-final between the State Information Chapel and the Correspondents Chapel proved a tense, cagey affair, with neither side able to break the deadlock in regulation time.
The goalless draw forced the tie into a penalty shootout, which served up pure drama. When the dust settled, the Correspondents Chapel held their nerve to triumph 7–6 on penalties and set up a final date with OSBC.
Final: A One-Sided Affair
The final, however, turned out to be a lopsided contest. The OSBC Chapel, clearly the team of the tournament, produced a dominant display, dismantling the Correspondents Chapel 5–0 to be crowned champions of the Osun NUJ Press Week 2026 football competition.
The Correspondents Chapel finished as runners-up, while the Broadcast Consolidated Chapel claimed third place.

Speaking after the final, Chairman of the Osun NUJ Sports Committee, Mr. Omidiran Seun, described the competition as a resounding success, noting that the sporting event was designed to promote unity, teamwork, friendship and healthy competition among journalists and media practitioners in the state.
The football competition was one of the major highlights of the Osun NUJ Press Week 2026, which brought journalists together through sporting, professional and social activities. The successful conclusion of the football event added another memorable chapter to this year’s Press Week celebrations.
