Osun killings: Police deploy tactical teams

The Osun State Police Command has deployed tactical teams to the Oke-Baale area of Osogbo following recent cult-related violence in parts of the state capital.

The command said the deployment was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, following incidents recorded around the Owo-Eba and Arowomole areas of Osogbo.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, a cult clash occurred around Owo-Eba on October 2, 2026.

The police said two persons, identified as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” and Oluwaseyi Daniel, also known as “OSHA,” were shot dead during the clash.

The command added that several other persons sustained gunshot injuries in the incident, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the violence had commenced.

Similarly, the police said suspected cultists invaded the Arowomole area of Osogbo on Sunday, October 4, during which one Rasak Wahab, also known as “Ojo Iku,” was shot.

“Wahab was subsequently evacuated to a hospital for treatment and is currently responding to medical care,” according to the command.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, described the incidents as disturbing and directed all tactical teams to relocate to Oke-Baale and remain there until normalcy is fully restored.

“Tactical teams have been directed to conduct intelligence-led raids and operations against identified cult members, criminal hideouts and locations linked to criminal activities.

“The cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation, while Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders were ordered to intensify patrols and intelligence gathering,” the statement said.

The police urged parents, community leaders and residents to provide timely and credible information about suspicious movements, cult gatherings and criminal hideouts, while warning cult groups, sponsors and sympathisers that those involved would face the law.

The command also reassured residents that the police were in control of the security situation and urged them to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and continue with their lawful activities.
