Police arrest five suspected armed robbers in Adamawa
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of a gang allegedly involved in armed robbery in Kofare, Yola South Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the suspects are Nura Aliyu, 20; Abubakar Adamu, 21; Abubakar Muhammed, 23; Abdulhameed Yusuf, 18; and Yusuf Husseini, 20.
The police alleged that the suspects were members of the Shila group, a term commonly used to describe gangs involved in street violence, extortion and robbery.
The suspects were arrested following intelligence received by the police concerning an armed robbery incident around Masallashi Biyu in Kofare.
The operation also led to the recovery of five machetes allegedly used in the commission of the offences.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
